Our Story

The Blue Goose was a neighbourhood in Shreveport, Louisiana. Named after a Grocery Store, The Blue Goose Grocery, next to a barbershop which had a large blue goose painted on the side of the building.

The store was located right beside Union Railway Station, where up to 35 passenger trains criss-crossed their way across the US daily.  The story goes that passengers travelling without a ticket, would jump off the train before it rolled into the station – right where the Blue Goose Grocery was located.  Stray musicians would play here for their supper and the various musical styles, over time, blended and created some iconic blues music.  The Blue Goose certainly planted some of the seeds of the Blues, as we know it today.

Dobbins

Dobbins, originally founded in 1976 by the late John O’Byrne, was a favoured hangout of world-leaders, politicians, celebrities, media types and captains of industry, closed in 2016.

Barry O’Halloran could see the business potential as he toured the building when it came to the market. Its location on Stephen’s Lane, near Merrion Square in Dublin 2, is unique. At 3,900 sq. ft across two levels.

Barry, with his background in the chartered surveying industry, extensively renovated and refurbished the building and in 2024 it re-opened as The Blue Goose at Dobbins.
